Diflucan is an antibiotic for treating and preventing fungal infections. Women in particular deliberate on using diflucan to treat yeast infections. The potential for side effects when using this medication, however, should be seriously acknowledged and considered before taking diflucan. Such are illustrated as follows.
Serious Effects
Two of the most severe side effects associated with patients taking diflucan are convulsions and seizures. In addition, women have reported severe peeling and blistering in conjunction with a skin rash that appears red. Dizziness, or vertigo, has also been experienced by women using diflucan to treat vaginal yeast infections. Some patients who experienced vertigo reported its duration as one year. Abdominal pain, yellow eyes or skin, and loss of appetite are other critical side effects linked to diflucan dosages.
Allergic Reaction
Despite being uncommon, allergic reactions are another side effect associated with diflucan. Such reactions include a sudden decrease in blood pressure, difficulty swallowing or breathing, and a breakout of hives. Patients have also experienced swelling of the throat, tongue, lips, and face.
Less Serious
Diflucan has the potential for less severe side effects when used to treat vaginal yeast infections. Among these, the most common reports included upset stomach, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. A disagreeable taste in the mouth, bloating, and headache were also side effects of a less serious nature as reported by patients.
Diseases
As a treatment for vaginal yeast infections, diflucan should not be used by individuals who suffer specific diseases. Heart rhythm disorder, kidney disease, and liver disease are included among such diseases. Diflucan also should not be used by those with a family or personal history of “Long OT syndrome.”
The potential for harmful side effects does exist when using diflucan, and these should be acknowledged before taking the drug. The most common reports included incidents of bloating, headache, and diarrhea. However, severe side effects of allergic reactions and convulsions were also reported by patients of diflucan. The benefits and risks posed by diflucan should be thoroughly discussed with a physician before using the drug as treatment for any condition, including vaginal yeast infections. Those with the diseases mentioned above may consider alternative treatments.
